There was a time in my life where my only reason for working out was to try and ‘be skinny’. It took a lot of time and work to heal my relationship with the gym. Now, I can confidently say, I don’t work out to get skinny.
I work out..

-so I can still carry my babies to bed when they fall asleep in mine
-so I can play the sports I love
-to regulate my emotions
-to get ME time
-to show my kids a love of movement
-to be strong enough when my boy runs at me and jumps into my arms
-to be independent
-because it feels good

I’ve always been pretty vulnerable in this space.. sharing the good, the bad, the ugly. I’m very much an open book kind of gal.

And there has been times where I have feared judgement..
Will they think I’m too much? Will they think I’m too loud? Will they think I’m too out there?
…but I shared anyway. Because, when I really think about it, the judgement of others from the outside is really the least of my worries.

I’ve recovered from disordered eating.
I’ve dropped out of diet culture.
I’ve recovered from major betrayal.
I’ve decided to successfully live alcohol free.
I’ve hit all time lows.
I’ve shown my messy home, and my clean home.
I’ve shared myself fully clothed and barely clothed.
I’ve shared the unposed version of myself and the posed one.
I’ve fought for things that matter to me, even if it makes others uncomfortable.
I’ve been judged, in this space and out of it.

And at the end of the day, just existing as I am is going to trigger some people.. and they are going to have their judgements.

But here’s why I don’t care:

I’ve worked hard, like REALLY hard, to love the person I am. I’ve done the work on myself to truly feel confident in me, regardless of outside opinions. I whole heartedly believe in the person I am.

So the judgement from others, is a them problem. Questions they have to ask themselves why they feel that way.. And really has nothing to do with me!

If you fear the judgement of others, look inside yourself and ask yourself why. And start to heal those parts of yourself. You deserve that freedom! And so do I.

Today marks one year alcohol free!
Here are some of the questions I get asked:

1. Is it hard to not drink?
•Considering I used to be the queen of shotgunning, you’d think I might say yes.. but for me, it is not hard at all. I don’t need alcohol to have fun, I haven’t changed the things I do just because I don’t drink, and alcohol did not serve me in my life anymore. So it’s been surprisingly easy for me. But I know that’s not the case for everyone!

2. Do you think you’ll ever drink again?
•I don’t think I will. I’ve been so happy and not even thinking about needing it.. or wanting it.. so I really don’t think I will.

3. Why don’t you drink anymore?
•there are so many reasons for this. So many. But the short answer is, I changed the way I viewed alcohol.. after a lifetime of having it normalized.. and I decided it is not something I want in my life anymore.

4. Do you judge others for consuming alcohol?
•nope! I’m all for anyone choosing whatever they want to in their lives. You do you!

5. Do you miss it?
•every now and then I miss a tasty margarita.. but not enough to want to have one. I’ve been enjoying mocktails, and last month I finally found a virgin marg at a restaurant that was so delicious. And Diet Coke is my one true love, so she’s all I need.

•I am a mom of 2 amazing kiddos
•I’ve been married for almost 13 years
•I’m a full time teacher (currently on a leave), also working towards my Masters
•I am a self love advocate
•I have a lot of tattoos, can no longer count
•my favourite food are dill pickles, my favourite meal is steak, lemon potatoes and beets
•I am a Diet Coke addict, no Diet Pepsi is not okay
•I am alcohol free
•I love sports and actively play volleyball, ball and golf
•I am a diet culture drop out
•I have a passion for fashion and would love to be a stylist

For so long I worried about having ‘the perfect body’.. and because of this, I missed out on a lot. It’s hard to see the beauty in things, when we are trained by society to pick everything apart for its flaws.

But it becomes easier.. When we decide to no longer look for the flaws and instead find the joy and the beauty in all we can.

I have so much to be thankful for.. So much beauty in my life, I’m looking for it every single day. And I’m learning, that I have always had a perfect body, because it is mine.

It can be hard to prioritize yourself in a world where pushing through everything is the norm. But I saw where that got me, and it was not good.. I was not good. Slowly, I am finding my light again!

This past while, I’ve been really working on finding my sparkle again after losing it. I’ve been practicing self care in so many ways.. long hot baths, going to therapy, moving my body, fuelling my body, saying no to things I can’t take on…

But I’ve also said yes to things that I know will fuel me. This trip to Kelowna was SO GOOD for me. An amazing group of girlfriends, an open agenda, being out in nature… and I’m so beyond grateful for the time spent there!

And I’m so grateful for my husband and kids who, without hesitation (maybe a couple of tears from Nova) give me hugs and kisses and tell me to have a wonderful time. They deserve the best and healthiest version of me, and I’m working on finding her again!

Do the things that light you up. Find your joy. You deserve it!

I’ve recently had a number of people say to me ‘you look a lot happier these days’…

And the truth is, I feel it. Mostly.
It’s been no secret that I was in a pretty difficult place a few months ago, the worst I’ve ever been mentally. I’ve been working on healing myself, day by day.

It hasn’t been the easiest… working through some traumas I didn’t realize were living inside of me, trying to mute the outside noise, giving myself permission to take the time I need… but I know it’s necessary.

Thank you to all of you for all of the support, always. I truly feel so lucky to have such a beautiful community around me 🖤

Here’s your reminder.. you deserve time, you deserve space, YOU ARE WORTHY!
